Enhancing the Outdoors: A Stunning Exterior Remodel

Continuing our series on this impressive full home remodel near Owasso, OK, we’re excited to share the transformation of the exterior space. After adding French doors from the living area to the backyard, we needed to create a welcoming outdoor area to match the beautiful interior.

The Need for a Deck

Given that the house is on a slope, a deck was the perfect solution for providing a level, functional outdoor space. To keep costs manageable, we built the entire structure using treated lumber. Not only is treated lumber durable and cost-effective, but it also accepts stain beautifully, allowing us to enhance its appearance and blend seamlessly with the overall design.

Before and After

In the before pictures, you can see a basic and somewhat neglected exterior. The after pictures reveal a complete transformation, including the addition of the deck and a fresh coat of paint for the entire exterior.

Exterior Finishes

The color choices for the exterior were carefully selected to create a cohesive and attractive look:

  • Trim, Soffit, and Doors: Pure White (SW 7005) for a crisp, clean contrast.
  • Garage Door: TriCorn Black (SW 6258) for a striking and sophisticated appearance.
  • Brick and Header Above Windows: Bungalow Beige (SW 7511) to bring warmth and elegance.
  • Deck and Front Door Stain: Oxford Brown to complement the newly painted exterior and add a rich, inviting touch.

Alternative Deck Product Options

While treated lumber was the choice for this project due to its cost-effectiveness and ability to be stained, there are several other decking materials available that can suit different needs and preferences. One popular alternative is composite decking, which is made from a mixture of wood fibers and plastic. Composite decking is known for its durability, low maintenance, and resistance to rot and insects. It comes in a variety of colors and textures, providing a high-end look without the upkeep required for wood.

Another option is cedar or redwood decking. These woods are naturally resistant to rot and insects, and they offer a beautiful, natural appearance. Cedar and redwood decks can be left untreated to weather to a natural gray, or they can be stained to maintain their color. While more expensive than treated lumber, these options provide a rich, natural look that many homeowners find appealing.

Finally, there is PVC decking, which is made entirely from plastic. PVC decking is extremely durable, resistant to moisture, and easy to maintain. It is available in a range of colors and finishes and is an excellent choice for homeowners looking for a long-lasting, low-maintenance deck solution.

Bringing It All Together

The addition of the deck not only provides a perfect place to relax and enjoy the backyard but also enhances the overall curb appeal of the home. The stained treated lumber adds a touch of natural beauty, and the newly painted exterior brings a fresh, updated look that ties everything together.
